80s to 40s
This wasn’t a good weekend for Denver sports! The Rockies are out and the Broncos struggle. Fans lament, and say wistfully, “Maybe next time, maybe next year.”
In some circumstances we look for change, yet other changes are not to our liking. Can you believe that just a week ago it was 80 and sunny? Now my weather app shows thirties and forties all week with clouds, rain and even snow! Where did the warmth go?
Some of us sadly look back, while others are looking forward with eager anticipation: snow in the mountains! Ski season is coming! One thing is certain about this life—ups and downs, for better or for worse, there is change.
I spoke with a friend yesterday and she told me she keeps a journal of blessings. On many days, even when there are changes, they are good and she feels blessed. However, when circumstances aren’t good, and change is disturbing, she looks back and is blessed by her blessings, or looks ahead in anticipation of what God will do.
God tells us not to be subject to our circumstances and feelings. Our attitude shouldn’t change based on what is happening around us. God blesses us with so much good, but He also uses difficulties to teach us, train us and strengthen us. He has freed us to rise above the ups and downs, negatives and positives, and to live in His presence, knowing He is in control and is working for our good and His glory. Though we don’t often notice, even these tough things in our lives can be blessings in disguise.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds…”(James 1:2)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
